21 people have been killed in a ghastly car crash that occurred in central Ghana, local radio stations reported Monday.
Three cars – a pickup, a Sprinter bus and a Glo branded vehicle - were involved in the deadly accident on Sunday.
A bus driver attempted to overtake a vehicle and hit another bus near Asankare on the main highway linking the capital Accra with the second-largest city Kumasi. The third bus then crashed into the other two, but its passengers were not injured.
The Ashanti Regional Motor Traffic and Transport Department Commander, Peter Gyemah said 12 males and 8 females were among the casualties.
It took rescuers several hours to remove the dead and the injured from the scene.
Fifteen passengers died on the spot and the rest in hospital. More than 10 people were in critical condition, doctors said.
