Hours after Governor Ayo Fayose of Ekiti state declared his intention to run for president come 2019, EFCC operatives stormed the state to arrest the duo of the Accountant-General of Ekiti State and Ekiti State Commissioner of Finance. According to a statement posted on their social media platform, the anti-graft agency said the men were arrested after they refused to honor an invitation by the Commission to explain their roles as alleged in a petition in respect of bail-out funds released to the state. Both are currently in the custody of the anti-graft agency.

The figure is much larger than the first half of 2016, when Apple saw between 2,750 and 2,999 orders. This week's report (PDF) noted that as usual, Apple is only allowed to disclose requests in batches of 250. The number of affected accounts also went up, from between 2,000 and 2,249 to around 9,000 to 9,249. Not a single national security letter has been declassified this year, but such documents —which don't require a judge's approval, and focus on metadata —are often paired with gag orders. Barely 48 hours after launching an ambush that killed three passengers on Tuesday, gunmen suspected to be sea pirates on Thursday hijacked a passenger boat along Nembe- Brass waterways. Militants had on August 28 ambushed a military houseboat and killed a soldier and civilian crew. Again, last Friday, the bandits attacked an oil services vessel killing three security men on board. It was gathered in the latest onslaught by the elusive pirates, that they trailed the boat after it had dropped off its occupants in Brass from Nembe before hijacking the boat. Community sources who witnessed the incident said the suspected pirates armed with sophisticated weapons shot sporadically into the air before seizing the boat.    The driver of the boat and his crewmen were later allowed to disembark at the creeks while the bandits moved on. The Chairman of the Bayelsa state Chapter of the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria Lloyd Sese who confirmed the incident said that pirates’ activities

The Nigerian government has approved the retirement of the acting director general of the National Agency for Food and Drugs Administration and Control, NAFDAC, Yetunde Oni. The directive for Mrs. Oni’s ‘immediate retirement’ was granted by the R.P. Ugo, a Permanent Secretary in the office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation. The directive, dated September 28, was in response to a letter written to the SGF by Mrs. Oni over the worker’s unrest in the regulatory agency. NAFDAC workers commenced an indefinite strike last week demanding among others the immediate removal of Mrs. Oni, whom they said was already due for retirement.

  The demand was announced Thursday by the governor of Ebonyi State, Dave Umahi, at the end of the monthly meeting of National Economic Council, NEC, which held at the presidential villa Abuja. Mr. Umahi said the failure of most federal Roads in the country was of concern to governors. Mr. Umahi said NEC has “recommended release of some federal government roads to state governors for prompt rehabilitation”. He also said the NEC directed the Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, to come up with modalities that will reduce pressure on the roads in order to preserve their quality.
